CSIG

An Overview

The Company Secretaries Interest Group was founded in May 1999. It came about in response to the need for a multi-disciplinary body where company secretaries and those in related positions could discuss common interests and react to a rapidly-changing business environment.

For a more in-depth look at company secretarial matters, CSIG organises functions where expert speakers make presentations and answer questions. Urgent notifications are sent to Members by e-mail.

The website bridges the intervals between functions by providing a home in cyberspace where members can read news, consult a library of articles and stay in touch.

What is the Company Secretaries Interest Group?

The Company Secretaries Interest Group is a multi-disciplinary forum for all professionals practicing as company secretaries or in related positions. It keeps professionals up to date with matters affecting company secretarial practice. It also provides the opportunity for networking with other professionals from corporate business and the public sector.

CSIG is endorsed by a number of professional bodies such as the Institute of Directors, the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants, The Southern African Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, The Black Lawyers' Association, The Corporate Lawyers' Association of South Africa and others.

What are the objectives of the CSIG?

  • Participation in public debates and enquiries.
  • A voice at forums representing the collective interest of company secretaries.
  • Promoting the interests of the profession.
  • Communicating with interested parties to keep them advised on relevant changes.

What is the current membership profile?

The Company Secretaries Interest Group draws members from the accounting, company secretarial, legal, corporate governance and administrative fields. Developments in corporate governance and the 1999 changes to the Companies Act increased the demand for company secretarial expertise and knowledge. This has attracted more professionals to CSIG.

Success

The success of the Company Secretaries Interest Group – since its foundation in May 1999 – has surpassed expectations.
The Group has attracted interest and gained credibility and recognition at the highest level as the voice of company secretaryship. It was originally formed to promote and advance the standing of company secretaries from all disciplines.
